April 2009 - Harlequin held their annual teddy bear competition on Sunday 26th April. The inter-gym competition, the first event at their new gym, saw gymnasts aged 4-9 competing in invitation and levels 5 and 6.  

In invitational level 1 their were three gymnasts, Maya Occleshaw came 3rd overall scoring 29.3, closely followed by Mary Woodfield who came 2nd with a score of 29.4, and Jessica Denvers came 1st scoring highly with 30.8.

In invitational level 2 we saw 4 gymnasts competing. Amber Hill came 4th in this level scoring 36.2 overall. Daisy Brandon came 3rd with a score of 37.4. In 2nd place came Charlotte Dashwood with a score of 37.7, and in 1st place was Natasha Cordery as she scored 38.6. Well done to all these girls. some of whom are competing for the first time.

In artistic level 6 there were 7 gymnasts competing; these girls are aged 7-8. Coming 7th was Jade Leighton who is new to the squad and only competed on two pieces. She finished well with a score of 17.8. in 6th position came Katie White who too is new to the squad and competed on three pieces giving her a score of 27.1. Coming 5th competing on all four pieces was Cassey Connolly scoring 36.8. 4th place was taken by Ella-Rose King with a score of 37.6, followed by Connie Woolhead taking the bronze with 40.6.  Simone Brodrick came in silver medal position as she scored 40.8 and the gold medal was taken home by Abi Tingey with an overall score of 41.2.

In the next grading, artistic level 5, there were ten gymnasts competing. In 9th place was Sadie Towell with an overall score of 37.4 followed by a score of 37.6 from Surenne Hibbins. In 7th place came Cody Whitbread scoring 39.2 and in 6th place was Ellie Woolhead scoring 39.4. Amy Thurgood took 5th position with a score of 39.6, 4th place was taken by Georgia Batten as she scored 40.2 but only 0.3 marks ahead in bronze medal position, with a score of 40.5 was Nico Brodrick. In joint 2nd place taking the silver medals was Alissa Denniston and Freya Nelson both scoring 40.8, and taking the gold was Kirsten Evans as she scored 43.5.

Harlequin would like to say well done to all the girls who competed and good luck to those competing in the up and coming 2 piece competition in Luton.
